Latest Paradox News

Hey everyone,
We've got plans for an upcoming music video for track 'Burning Out' taken from our current album
Chapters (Paradox album) Inspired by modern day human life as we know it! The video will probably have the same sentiment. Happy to have the creative mind of Eanna Tomás O Flaithbertaigh behind the editing tools for this one. As well as video editing Eanna is also a photographer with a full book in his works coming soon. Check out some of his photos online at Disused school-houses, notes and photographs . If that isn't enough Eanna also plays bass with Neon Atlas .

In the meantime have a listen to 'Burning Out' on Spotify - https://open.spotify.com/track/0pnwviMSRGNGwNF1YRycEE

A BIG Thank You to everyone who made it along to the Eddie Vedder aftershow party at Crane Lane, Cork Sunday night. We just about made it back in time to play after running back from the Marquee show. What a great night! 2 great gigs! Amazing to hear Eddie's voice back in Cork after all these years. Special thanks to The Oddities and Mark Daly for joining us on stage and taking on the huge vocal role of Chris Cornell for 'Hunger Strike'. Never played it before we hope we done it some kind of justice. Let's keep the music alive. For Chris ...

When I first heard the news this morning about Chris Cornell I thought it was some tasteless practical joke. I still can't believe it. Chris really was a voice of a generation and what a voice! Voice from my youth, a huge influence on our music and my life growing up. Chris and his band Soundgarden were the pioneers of the whole Seattle scene. Before the likes of Nirvana and Pearl Jam broke Soundgarden were already making way for things to come.

Not sure what else to add here ...Just simply sad and in disbelief that yet another one of the greats is gone. We're gonna miss you Chris. Glad to have seen you live them few times and heard your voice echo through them speakers. Still echoing through them stereo speakers.

Say Hello to Heaven #ChrisCornell #Soundgarden #RIP

So nearly everyone knows by now that the legend that is Eddie Vedder is coming to play Live at the Marquee Cork on Sunday June 11th together with Glen Hansard. The last time Eddie played Cork was 1996 in Millstreet, one of the first shows I went to.

We're delighted to be playing the official aftershow party w/ fellow Cork band The Oddities taking place at Crane Lane, Cork
Kicking off sometime after 11pm. Free Admission to everyone.
Bring your ticket stubs for possible free drinks etc..
Expect some Vedder tunes. Looking forward to this one not every day Eddie visits Cork. Share the event/ invite everyone!

Our second album Sacred (Paradox album) was released 13 years ago today on May 11th 2004. Recorded in 2 parts at BPM Studios in Douglas, Cork 'Sacred' was the album where we found what direction we wanted our music to go. Pete and Mike played all instruments on the album. Here's 'Downward Spiral', one of the tracks that received most attention and a song we still play live today

The new PARADOX single #AllLifeMatters has arrived! *** Short Disclaimer ***
While we prefer not to explain the meaning of our songs or music we feel compelled to add some sort of disclaimer to this track as it already has been mis-interrupted.
The track is NOT affiliated in any way to the ‘All Lives Matter’ hashtag or any ‘Pro Life’ campaigns. The meaning of this song is quite simple. It is written as a direct result of how western media reports it’s news, making one subject matter or tragedy more important than the other, favouring to report celebrity news and hype over real world issues, placing more significance on tragedies and loss of life based on where that tragedy occurred and the lives were lost. How we as a society receive this information and are influenced by western news and media depending on how it is reported.

In an age of clown politics where what once seemed like a joke has now become a reality there's nothing left to do but hit the studio and record a new song. Frustration always fuels creativity:)

A productive day with Brian Casey / Brian Casey Music at Wavefield Recording Studios in Bantry. This will be the first new track as a follow up to 'Chapters' which was also recorded at Wavefield. (https://play.spotify.com/album/2VEHv3yC4D3Twh4ReBRBSW )

'EAT' Music Video screening tonight at the IndieCork Film Festival taking place at the Blacknight Festival Centre aka. The Kino Cinema on Washington Street, Cork as part of CineCeoil. Featuring a variety of Irish music videos followed by a special screening of the classic David Bowie film Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars. Doors 9pm. Huge Thanks to Phoenix Pictures for the video production, IndieCork Film Festival for nominated the video, Brian Casey Music for his sound engineering expertise and musical input with the track (and the full album 'Chapters'),Maeve Kelly for her Cello playing and Earthlings for the inspiration.

.

.We're delighted to announce that the 'EAT' Music Video has been nominated for a second time this month at this years IndieCork Film Festival 2016 taking place October 9th to 16th
The video will be screened on Tuesday, October 11th at the Blacknight Festival Centre (aka. The Kino Cinema) on Washington Street in Cork as part
CineCeoil which will feature a variety of music videos as well as a special screening of the classic David Bowie film Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars. Doors 9pm.
'EAT' was initially inspired by the documentary
Earthlings with the video created in stop motion style using hand made puppets with the idea of reversing the roles in factory farms between humans and animals. Huge thanks to Phoenix Pictures for the production. Earthlings portrays a sad reality with the relationship we have to animals and even though it may be difficult to watch your eyes will be opened to some very sad truths. With the 'EAT' music video we simply wanted to try get a subtle message across that also represents the meaning of the song. Thanks again everyone for your support and watching the video. Look forward to seeing it on the big screen at The Kino in Cork.

Last night at the Deep South can only be described as epic! For one night it really was ?#?SirHenrys?? again. Haven't seen crowd surfing like that in a while.HUGE Thanks to everyone for packing the place and the great vibes! Hopefully we done it justice for anyone who was at the original Nirvana gig 25 years ago. It was definitely a gig to remember for us.
We've got a ton of photos to get through and some videos to post over the next week or so thanks to
Jota Gambuzino and Brian Lalor Extra BIG thank you to Siobhan Bardsley from Circa'91 for originally organising the whole 25 year event last night. She also is responsible for the Fanzine exhibition in Cork City Libraries which is still running until Aug 27th and the huge photo of Kurt at Sir Henrys on the Grand Parade in Cork. Thanks also toMike McGrath Bryan and Darren Mac Scugal from Deep South for transforming the Deep South back to Aug. 20th 1991More photos coming soon ...

So tonight's the night.25 Years to the day Nirvana opened for Sonic Youth at Sir Henry's in Cork, Aug. 20th 1991 which is now Deep South on Grand Parade. Let's relive it! Doors 9pm and FREE Adm. The Deep South beer garden may look a little different tonight.

BIG thanks to Darren Mac Scugal , Mike McGrath Bryan and Siobhan Bardsley from Circa'91 for all your help organising everything from the exhibition at Cork City Libraries to the 25 year event. Nirvana changed our lives for the better. I don't think Paradox would exist if it wasn't for this band. It's a privilege to be playing in the very same venue 25 years later hopefully doing Nirvana justice. For anyone listening to the Green Room this evening between 6 and 8pm onCork's 96FM I'll be dropping in for a quick chat about tonight's show and possibly playing a few acoustic Nirvana/Paradox tunes to get warmed up! Cheers guys. Gig of the year bring it on

Long post here but couldn't fit everything into a short post. Just popped into the Circa'91 Fanzine Exhibition which opens today at Cork City Libraries on Grand Parade, Cork and runs until August 27th. This is a MUST SEE for anyone who was part of the scene in Cork in the late 80's/early 90's and loves anything DIY which is something that's absent in many ways in today's music scene. Carefully put together by official Nirvana Cork tour guide Siobhan from Circa'91exhibition features original fanzines and posters which were all handmade 'pre-internet' in true DIY fashion. Main features are of course the original Sonic Youth/Nirvana poster from Sir Henry's, an original non biased review of Nirvana at the Cork gig fanzine style, The Frank and Walters Official and Sultans of Ping fanzine write ups, ticket stubs, Comet Records Top 10 releases (which carries on as plugd at Triskel Arts Centre) and if that wasn't enough a custom made Circa'91 Fanzine, created as if it was 1991 in the year 2016 with exclusive Nirvana/Sonic Youth photos taken by Ed Sirrs and a must read article by Keith Cameron who travelling over from NME at the time to witness the gig. There are limited copies of this Fanzine to take away with you FOR FREE but once they're gone they're gone. Maybe we took it for granted back in the day but Cork had an awesome music scene for such a small city. There's always been a real sense of community here between musicians and everyone involved to do it for the love of it if nothing else. Even when we started playing around '99 in Cork there was a lot of support similar to the fanzine era of the early 90's. Only a few more days to go until Sat. August 20th where the main live event happens 25 years to the day on the original site of Sir Henry's which is now Deep South on Grand Parade. Just like the exhibition it's FREE admission and there will be some extra goodies on the night so be sure to arrive early. Doors 9pm. This one will be the gig of the year for us.

.

.

Kurt back on the streets of Cork 25 years later. On Sat. August 20th at Deep South we'll be celebrating 25 years since the legendary Sonic Youth & Nirvana gig took place at the same venue (called Sir Henry's at the time) We will be playing on an outdoor stage in the beer garden which is where the original gig actually took place. Anyone walking down Grand Parade in Cork City have a look out for the blown up poster in the very same place where this photo of Kurt was taken. If you feel like doing a one legged stand on an invisible concrete bollard feel free to take a photo and post it on the event page which is here - https://www.facebook.com/events/519159191626287/ Huge interest in this event so far so thank you everyone

The Grand Parade in Cork is gonna get a lot more nostalgic over the next few weeks with the help of Circa'91 and a certain photographer by the name of Ed Sirrs. There will also an exhibition running at the Cork City Libraries from Aug. 16th to 27th featuring a huge display of original fanzine memorabilia from the late 80's,early 90's with the original Sonic Youth/ Nirvana gig listing, Frank and Walters, Sultans of Ping FC and much more. Stay tuned!

SMELLS LIKE NIRVANA 2016 is back for a third year in a row. What started as a once off event Cork in 2014 to mark the 20th anniversary of Kurt Cobain has now turned into a yearly event due to the success and popularity of the shows.

We never expected this to grow as much as it did so thank you everyone for packing out the shows the past 2 years and remembering the music of one of the most important bands of the 90's Nirvana

This year we're heading the some new spots of the country we have never played before as well as returning to our favourite spots.

Our longtime drummer Mike Mac will also be joining us on drums this year with Sean Conway drumming for Screenreader's set. Gonna be fun!

Just came across this ... We often opened with a cover of Bowie's classic 'Space Oddity' before launching into 'Corporate Pollution'. This was recorded Dec. 28th 2006 at Rock at Sage at the Sage Club in Berlin, Germany with John Finn on bass. For some reason it was made to play in drop 'D'... Still sinking in Rest in Peace

.

.

First Scott, then Lemmy and now David Bowie all gone in a matter of weeks. A Sad Day for music is an understatement. Only recently read on interview with Scott Weiland on how much he was influenced by him. I watched the original broadcast of his 50th birthday with special guests from Dave Grohl to the Pumpkins and my personal favourite Sonic Youth. Still have it recorded on VHS somewhere. It was around that time I became a Bowie fan. He influenced so many great artists that we've been influenced by. A true legend Rest in Peace David Bowie

New Music Video for Paradox track 'EAT' from the new album 'Chapters'.

.

.

.

As promised, we managed to dig out a few more pics of our time in LA recording our debut 'Circle of Growth'. Definately an awesome experience for a young band at the time. Fly out just before Christmas 2000 and were thrown head first into the label world. Met some pretty cool people and other bands. Got to see and stay in different parts of LA, San Fernando Valley, Culver City, and the infamous Sunset Strip! Definately the destination for more Mikes style of music for sure! Can't believe it has been 15 years, man we're getting old..

Some are ones that have been seen already just better quality. .

15 Years Ago today we entered Mastergroove Studios in Los Angeles, California to record our debut album Circle of Growth . We had to get all 12 tracks recorded and mixed in under 2 weeks as we had to fly back to Ireland before xmas. It was just Mike and myself in the studio. As Murphy's law would have it I lost my voice completely the day before we recorded the vocals. There was also some pressure from the label too at the time to get everything finished. While having a label initially fund the recording of the album was nice a DIY approach has always felt more secure. Strange looking back now but we've no regrets. Four albums later and we're still playing.

Click on image above to view more pix of our time in LA!

We'll also dig out some unseen images of the Circle of Growth recording sessions for your viewing pleasure real soon and we'll post them here...

You can download 'Circle of Growth' for FREE on band camp (or name your price) - https://paradoxgrunge.bandcamp.com/album/circle-of-growth

Another great voice and influence gone too soon. Rest in Peace Scott Weiland

In the run up to Xmas we are offering a special discount on all our albums available for download on band camp. You can download all 4 Paradox albums Chapters (Paradox album) , Corporate Pollution ', Sacred (Paradox album) and 'Circle of Growth' for just over 9 euros (or $$ equivalent) If that's not enough we're also throwing in the Pete Mac solo album 'In Limbo' on top

Just a small thanks for all your continued support throughout this year

We currently have a new music video in the works for the 3rd single to be taken from 'Chapters' titled 'EAT' produced by Brian Casey at Wavefield Recording Studios.

The song was originally inspired by the documentary Earthlings which focuses mainly on the treatment of animals in factory farms, the fashion industry and how animals are exploited and used solely for profit, consumption and human pleasure.

The good guys from Phoenix Pictures are behind the production of the video. Expect something different. We'll have some photo stills from the video shortly but in the meantime here's the track on sound cloud ::

Tonight we are back at Pana at The Pav in Cork for a special Oxjam Ireland charity event with all proceeds going towards Oxfam Ireland. *** New Single and Music Video - 'EAT'. ***
Hey everyone,
We currently have a New Music Video in the works for track 'EAT' which is the third single to be taken from the new album
Chapters (Paradox album). Cork Film Producers Phoenix Pictures will be behind the production and editing of the video. Since they done such a good job on the 'Free As A Bird' music video we wanted to work with them again on this video. The song itself was initially inspired by the documentary Earthlings which focuses on the treatment of animals (by humans) and we hope to achieve something visually different and engaging with this video that will also reflect the meaning of the song.
Here's the streaming track on

"Nothing Lasts begins like an Elliott Smith track, 'S.A.D.'s opening riff is bloody delicious, 'Beating Down' has it's Nirvana-esque elements but quickly strides off into Pearl Jam's Yield, feels like an album that has been sent into the present day from the past to remind us of the finer music that was produced during the grunge era." - Very insightful and all round nice review of our new album 'Chapters' from Remy's Music & Film Blog. PARADOX have been added to the line up for this awesome event. Cork's own Music Festival 96/1 with 96 bands playing in over 30 venues across the city on 1 day/night, Saturday August 29th. We will be playing sometime during the day. We'll have more details shortly on this gonna be fun.

Cork is booming with musicians and bands of all genres and I'm not just saying that because it's our hometown. There seems to be a real community here instead of a competitiveness that seems to take over in other cities with bands. Power in numbers so let's push the whole Cork music scene forward.

Encouraging review of 'Chapters' from Skyrockit Music.

"With an independent band producing music of this standard, my hopes are high for the future of the grunge/rock genre and era in Ireland, wherever it might exist. If MTV was to fall back to its 90’s roots right now, this band would be all over your TV screens, not just your computer screens."
